The way it works is that you bid on items, ranging from iPods to Vegas vacations, and the lowest UNIQUE bid wins. That means that you must be the only person to have bid that amount AND be the lowest bid. There are ways to bid an entire range (27 cents to 53 cents, for examples). The thing is, you see, that each bid costs anywhere from $1 to $4. So you could spend all kinds of money bidding, but not win the item.

Sure, this may be worth it to some, to eventually win something that costs more than the total amount spent in bidding wars. I don’t doubt that many people gets crazy deals on wonderful products, but it strikes me as time-consuming and a long shot. Still, there’s that part of me that would LOVE to be one of these people:

What I don’t understand is how someone can win an item for 9 cents. The odds of people bidding all around that amount seem slim to me. A person would have to be lucky to achieve this, I feel. Damn, I sure am curious about this site. I could use an iPod for 92 cents! If I end up trying it out, I’ll post an update on my experience. Christmas shopping, maybe?

In tough economic times such as those we’re experiencing, it’s important to evolve and be open to change. Gone are the days of simply applying for jobs, getting an interview and working full-time with benefits and paid vacation. Those jobs exist, but they are becoming fewer and farther between. One solution is to create the job you want with the company of your choice, and make a proposal that your idea becomes reality! Here are some things I feel are important when embarking on a journey of job creation.

Confidence

Self-confidence is even more important when proposing the creation of a job than when applying for an existing position. In this case, you are indicating your interest to fill a void they were unaware existed. It is crucial to believe in your ideas, but also in your skills and abilities. After all, the last thing you want is to have them acknowledge your suggestions but hire someone else.

Creativity

It is easy to look at the job market and assume that since a company is not hiring, that there is nothing they need done at the moment. That’s where creativity will come into play. This does not mean making up tasks in the hopes that someone will fall for your ruse. Rather, it involves analyzing a company and their competitors in order to identify previously unidentified needs. Although a company may be successful, this does not mean they have the time to consider all aspects of how they run their business.

Passion

It is not enough to kinda sorta want to work for a company because it would be something to do. Nor is it sufficient to pick a random employer and hope they’ll like your ideas. If there is to be success, you must be passionate about the company you’re pursuing and also about what you will bring to the table. After all, if you expect this company to invest money and time into you, you had better demonstrate that you’re serious and have their best interest in mind. In some cases, they may see more passion and drive in you (who does not even work for them) than in some of their current employees.
